Boys-2-Men of Summer

It was Roger Kahn who upgraded Brooklyn’s bum to “The Boys of Summer”, but it was our own Maxwell Kates of Toronto who noticed how many of these 1940s or 1950s Brooklyn Dodgers went on to manage in the bigs and that there are just enough to field a splendid team and that they fill the positions nicely. They account for an impressive total of 131 years and 18,569 games managed.  A version of this team was first posted 20-Nov-2001.  I think I agree with most people that there should be at least one more asterisk here.  (Brooklyn Dodger years) [Managerial sojourns].

Bragan was my inspiration to repost because there was considerable talk of him at the SABR convention in Atlanta.  He was the Braves manager when they moved there.

1b -       GIL HODGES (1943, 47-57) [Senator 1963-67; Mets 68-71]

LF -       TOMMY HOLMES (1952) [Braves 1951-52]
CF -      Bob Kennedy (1957) [Cubs 1963-65; A’s 1968]
PH -      BEN CHAPMAN (1944-45) [Phillies 1945-48] and COOKIE LAVAGETTO (1937-41, 1946-47) [Senators 1957-60; Twins 1961-62]
